An elderly woman was found dead at the scene of a fire in a Brampton high-rise on Thursday evening, Peel paramedics say. Fire crews responded to flames coming from a 14th-floor unit in an apartment building near Queen Street E. and Central Park Drive. The woman was pronounced dead but it's unclear whether the woman died as a result of the fire. Paramedics told CBC Toronto the woman did not appear to have any signs of smoke inhalation or burns.

The cancellation of the GT20 in Brampton is a setback, as it means there will be no international cricket stars playing in the city this year.

As a precaution, enhanced security measures were provided to ensure their safety while the matter was investigated.

A sinkhole has formed on Steeles Avenue due to a water main break, causing significant disruption. Police reported the sinkhole and water pooling at 1:20 p.m.

Peel police reported that a man was shot by police in Brampton, sustaining serious injuries and taken to a trauma hospital; no officers were hurt.

"This hurt me a lot because I believed him, and I trusted him to have a home, and it didn't happen... He took me to this site to see the home, but it wasn't my home."
