A New Hampshire woman was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole Wednesday after she was convicted of fatally stabbing her brother-in-law in 2021. Ren Rodgers, 28, of Hollis, will be eligible for parole after 18 years in prison. Her attorney was not immediately available for comment Wednesday. Rodgers was convicted of second-degree murder last month for stabbing 21-year-old Christopher Kellar to death in a Boston hotel room on Feb. 20, 2021.
Patrick Rushing, 35, was convicted of second-degree murder with an enhancement for intentional discharge of a gun in the Feb. 26, 2023 killing of 44-year-old Phoutsamay "Phil" Norawong. The prelude to murder started months earlier, with a seemingly unrelated event: Rushing fronted about four pounds of marijuana to a man named Terrance Rose, 35, with the expectation he'd be paid back later. But Rose subsequently failed a drug test while on probation for a federal fentanyl and gun possession case, and ended up doing a stint in jail for it, court records show.
Former NFL star Antonio Brown filed a motion this week to dismiss the second-degree murder charge against him in Miami based on Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law. The motion was filed Monday but shared with ESPN by his lawyer, Mark Eiglarsh, on Saturday. The incident involved gunfire outside an amateur boxing match. Brown, 37, spent nearly six months in Dubai, to where he traveled after the incident, before being extradited by U.S. marshals. Shortly after he arrived in Miami last month, he pleaded not guilty.
