Damian Hudson was found guilty of second-degree murder in the shooting death of Karolina Huebner-Makurat. Hudson pleaded not guilty to the charge. Huebner-Makurat was 44 years old and a mother of two. She was shot on July 7, 2023, struck by a stray bullet while outside the South Riverdale Community Health Centre. She was hit on Queen Street East near Carlaw Avenue in Leslieville, Toronto, and later died in hospital from her injuries. The fatal shooting involved a stray round that wounded an unintended target.
