Marin homeowners are beginning to take advantage of a new state law that allows them to to split their parcel and build up to four homes on the lot.The California Home Act, more commonly known as Senate Bill 9, took effect on Jan. 2, 2022.The law, which opens the door for more dwellings in areas zoned for detached homes, was passed with the hopes that it would help ease the state's critical shortage of affordable housing.

The historic San Francisco Armory, that hulking brick building in the middle of the Mission District, could be renovated to make way for a jazz club and VIP lounge, according to reporting from the planning-focused blog SF Yimby.The outlet reports that AJ Capital Partners, which owns the property at 1800 Mission Street, submitted an application with plans for the building's interior renovations.

Axel Schmies/Getty Images New data out this week suggests that San Francisco's exodus may be slowing.The city lost just 0.5% of its population between July 2021 and July 2022, according to California's Department of Finance, a much smaller percentage than the 3.7% decrease in the previous year.That puts the city's population at 834,046 during that time.

Dangerously high winds - in some areas reaching over 90 mph - battered Northern California late Wednesday and into Thursday morning, though forecasters say the worst of the gusty weather has likely passed for the region.Wind speeds reached 101 mph at Pablo Point in Marin County overnight, possibly the most extreme of the gusts during the strong atmospheric river storm that caused flooding, mass power outages and at least two deaths.
