Record-high tides hit wealthy Marin County hard. It wasn't ready.
Briefly

"I had this idea that we could kayak the bike path, so I put my two smallest kids in the kayak and off we went,"
"I've never seen anything like it."
San Francisco Bay Area water levels reached record highs in early January as winter storms coincided with king tides, inundating parking lots, bike paths and access roadways for Sausalito houseboats. Marin County recorded over $4.3 million in coastal and inland flooding damage, including an estimated $2.6 million in levee infrastructure harm in San Rafael's Santa Venetia. San Francisco tidal data show about a 10-inch rise since 1900, and projections indicate roughly 3 to 7 feet of sea-level rise by 2100 compared with 2000 levels. Estimated adaptation costs reach billions for Marin and the entire Bay Area.
