'Pull to the right': New technology alerts Marin Co. drivers to yield to emergency vehicles
Briefly

Fire agencies in Marin County have adopted a new technology called 'Safety Cloud' to alert drivers of approaching emergency vehicles and accidents, aiming to improve safety. The system utilizes smartphone apps like Waze and Apple Maps to automatically notify nearby drivers when fire trucks are en route. Given the rising number of collisions involving emergency responders, Fire Chief Chris Tubbs emphasizes that this isn't merely a gadget, as digital alerts can lower the risk of accidents by up to 90% compared to traditional lights and sirens alone.
"One of the things that studies have shown is digital alerting systems actually reduce the risk of collisions up to 90%, as compared to our emergency lights alone," Tubbs said.
"Some of these vehicles, they're super insulated, hard to hear the environment outside," said Southern Marin Firefighter Brian Natsios.
