Bay Area driver frustration triggers updated Highway 101 rules
""We have listened to a number of residents express frustration along the corridor," he said."
""It's a nightmare, I'm retired and don't have to do it," driver Monique Turner told KGO-TV. "It's not moving traffic like it should, if that's their goal, this is not going to work.""
Caltrans adopted revised weekday high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) hours on Highway 101 across 52 miles between Marin and Sonoma counties, with new posted signs expected by late February. The updated HOV windows are 6–9 a.m. and 3–6:30 p.m. Caltrans based the change on a traffic analysis completed this month and incorporated input from North Bay commuters. The adjustment follows a September update that set weekday HOV hours to 5–10 a.m. and 3–7 p.m., which produced widespread commuter backlash and more than 150 reader responses. Commuters reported ongoing frustration and questioned the effectiveness of prior changes.
