We are supporting the next of kin of the people who have died in this very sad incident. Officers are carrying out enquiries to establish exactly what has happened, but we are not seeking anyone else in relation to this matter.
David Davidson, chief operating officer at Southeastern Railway, stated the train was involved in a collision with the van near Teynham and they are cooperating with emergency services and the Rail Accident Investigation Branch.
A man's body has been discovered in the River Thames near the Dartford Crossing. Rescue teams confirmed the body was retrieved and the man was pronounced deceased shortly thereafter. The death is not considered suspicious and next of kin have been notified. Officers from Kent Police, along with paramedics and the Coastguard, responded to the incident.
The bear involved may still be in the area as our officers continue to secure the perimeter. Out of an abundance of caution, we urge residents and visitors to remain vigilant and avoid the area.
