A Gen-Zer still living with his dad was busted for stealing $16 million in cryptocurrency from dozens of people - using the funds to gamble and shamelessly bragging about the jaw-dropping digital heist online, Brooklyn prosecutors said Friday. Ronald Spektor, 23, allegedly scammed roughly 100 victims - ranging from cops to single moms - out of their hard-earned savings while running the scheme from his father's house in Sheepshead Bay, according to Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.
The volunteers at the Coney Island Lighthouse Mission food bank have it down to a science, serving more than 7,000 families a month for the past 25 years. "Twice a month because I'm [a] widow who's disabled and [on a] minimum pension, [It's] helped me do my life," said Serafema, a long-time recipient. But executive director of the mission, Pastor Tony Robbins, warns that without $100,000 in emergency funding, the pantry could be forced to shut down in January.
Lee, a software engineer who previously worked at Google and Uber, recognized those struggles for the first time a few years ago, when her grandmother died after a long battle with dementia. Lee's aunt, who she described as an "alpha daughter," had been her grandmother's primary caretaker for years. "I just, from the sidelines, thought she was a complete superhero. She was an architect, she was raising children, she was taking care of my grandmother," Lee said. "But it was at the memorial service that I realized she actually just fully broke during that whole journey."

Brathwaite was waiting for her and offered to drive her to pick up her child from a babysitter. She accepted and got into his car. While driving, Brathwaite raised the subject of their past relationship and asked to reconcile. When the victim refused, prosecutors said, he became enraged, grabbed and punched her, took her phone, and pulled out a knife. He repeatedly stabbed and slashed her in the neck and thigh and choked her with both hands as he continued driving.

The event was organized by NIA Community Services Network with support from Council Member Justin Brannan and state Sen. Andrew Gounardes.

Titled "Migration," the project marks the second phase of a broader cultural initiative that began with the landmark restoration of Harlem Renaissance sculptor Richmond Barthé's "Exodus and Dance" frieze. The restoration received the 2025 Moses Award for Preservation Projects from the New York Landmarks Conservancy and the 2025 Excellence in Historic Preservation Award from the Preservation League of New York State. The heritage walk honors the "Great Migration" and features 35 illuminated steel sculptures ranging from six to 12 feet high, spread across the 16-acre campus. The installation amplifies the voices, memories, and aspirations of Kingsborough residents while honoring the recently restored, monumental 8-foot-by-80-foot frieze, installed in 1941.
Like many American cities, the streetscape in downtown Brooklyn was for a long time very heavy on the street: a great place to park a car or drive through. But over the past 20 years, the area itself has gone from being a 9-to-5 shopping and business district to one where a growing number of people live 24-7. Since 2004, more than 22,000 housing units have been added to the neighborhood, changing its character so much that its old streetscape just wasn't cutting it.

Each year, the building was wrapped in more than 150,000 lights and filled with mechanical figures, moving scenes and inflatable decorations that attracted thousands of visitors and rivaled the most elaborate displays across the five boroughs. The tradition stretched nearly 50 years before dimming in 2021, when Seddio put the historic property up for sale.

Safe streets advocates renewed their call on Monday for installing a two-way protected bike lane along Brooklyn's Lafayette Avenue following an early morning crash that, police say, left an e-bike rider in critical condition.
