Brooklyn serial killer preyed on neighbors in his own building in 'brutal' spree
""This defendant is an alleged serial killer who murdered three of his elderly neighbors who trusted him and welcomed him into their homes only to have that trust violated in the worst way imaginable.""
""These victims were beloved mothers, grandmothers, and beloved friends whose violent deaths have had a chilling effect inside their housing complex and on the Brownsville community.""
Kevin Gavin, a 71-year-old handyman, admitted to murdering three elderly women in his apartment complex in Brownsville. The killings occurred between 2015 and 2021, targeting women who trusted him for assistance. The first victim, Myrtle McKinney, was fatally stabbed in November 2015. Subsequent victims included Jacolia James, 83, killed in her home in 2019. Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez stated that Gavin's actions violated the trust of the victims, who were beloved members of their community.
