An effort to develop housing at public transit stations in Santa Clara County has awakened after being dormant for decades - and is expected to rake in lease profits and fuel train ridership. VTA leaders next week will open the doors to their first new public transit-oriented apartment complex in 20 years, between the Willow Glen and Alma neighborhoods next to the Tamien light rail station. Complete with a child care center and improved transit plaza, the complex will offer 135 affordable apartments.

A record-breaking number of riders are expected to board light rail trains for Super Bowl LX, with the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority projected to spend $3.8 million to run extra trains and boost security. VTA is planning to add 22 extra light rail trains to transport football fans to and from Levi's Stadium on Feb. 8, operating at about 90% of its maximum capacity.

Yeah, it's a great point because, you know, going from, you know, Caltrain where most of the areas around those stations, and certainly in the city, but also in some of the peninsula cities where for those who have not visited the peninsula south of San Francisco and north of San Jose, it's dense in a way, like you might find on the mainline outside of Philadelphia or like a Boston commuter line.

Santa Clara County Sheriff's Deputies on Wednesday arrested a 23-year-old man on assault charges after a vicious slashing attack on a Valley Transit Authority bus driver in South San Jose. Deputies reported that just after 7 a.m. on Aug. 20 at Blossom Hill Road and Hillview Avenue in San Jose, a VTA bus driver reported that he had been attacked after asking a rider to stop repeatedly pulling the stop-request cord.

We have to got to do something to change what is being shown as deficits over the next 10 years, 14 years. We can at least know that we can address whatever's in front of us for a relatively short period of time with this measure ... providing us enough time to start developing those changes necessary to the business model and to the things we've gotta do as an agency.

The Eastridge to BART Regional Connector Project (EBRC) is a significant public transportation initiative in East San Jose, spanning 2.4 miles with new VTA stations.

"The sense that we got was because of the amount of time it took to get to this point, some folks were just either frustrated or they were just tired and wanted to move on," said Raj Singh.

Buying this 488 South Almaden site is one of the best fiscal decisions the VTA has ever made.

Critics have long questioned the 2018 decision, especially in light of the ballooning project cost, which has risen from $4.7 billion in 2014 to $12.75 billion.

The Appellate Court of the Sixth District upheld a ruling that ended a two and a half week-long strike by VTA employees, allowing services to resume.

The appellate court's denial of the writ petition allows VTA to continue to serve our customers. We are hopeful that ATU will return to bargaining.
