Tesla is recalling 12,963 electric cars built and sold in the United States this year, because they may lose power while driving. According to official documents submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the affected vehicles have been fitted with high-voltage battery contactors that have a faulty solenoid. The problematic solenoid may force the contactor to suddenly open due to a poor coil termination connection, which stops the flow of electricity from the main battery to the electric motor or motors.
Tesla is recalling more than 63,000 Cybertrucks in the U.S. because the front lights are too bright, which may cause a distraction to other drivers and increase the risk of a collision. The vehicles were made between Nov. 13, 2023, and Oct. 11, 2025, with operating software versions prior to 2025.38.3.

The number of automobiles in the recall total 393,838, with the non-hybrid Tundra making up more than half of them.
Rivian is changing the door handle design on its upcoming R2 SUV after employees and customers raised safety concerns, according to Bloomberg News. The automaker is one of many that has leaned into electronically-latched door handles over the last few years. While this allows for sleeker presentation and more aerodynamic design, it often results in the automaker tucking the manual emergency door releases away in hard-to-find places.

But while dogs bring comfort and joy, they can also bring danger, especially when they ride along in the car. In 2023, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recorded 40,901 motor vehicle fatalities. The majority were linked to speeding, drunk driving, or failure to wear seatbelts. But an alarming 3,275 deaths were attributed to distracted driving. While mobile phones dominate the distracted driving conversation, dogs are a growing and under-recognized part of the problem.
