Zach Charbonnet ran for 110 yards and two touchdowns, and the Seattle Seahawks turned two third-quarter Carolina turnovers into TDs to beat the Panthers 27-10 on Sunday and close in on the No 1 seed in the NFC playoffs. RENTON, Wash. -- Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins will not play this season because of a back injury, coach Mike Macdonald said Wednesday. The Seahawks re-signed Hankins to a one-year, $2.115 million deal in May, bringing him back for a second season in Seattle and his 13th season in the NFL. But he landed on the Non-Football Injury List in July, and there had been no signs of late that he was nearing a return to practice. Macdonald declined to reveal whether Hankins, 33, had back surgery, saying, "I'll probably just leave it private right now with what's going on with his health, but he won't be with us this year."

DeMarcus Lawrence scooped up the loose ball in stride with his right hand and never touched it with his left on his way to the end zone for a 22-yard fumble return for a touchdown. If it looked like the veteran outside linebacker had done it before, it's because he had -- only minutes earlier, and on an almost identical play. Among the many highlights for the Seattle Seahawks in their 44-22 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday at Lumen Field were two return touchdowns by Lawrence in the first half, both of which came on fumbles forced by blitzing inside linebacker Tyrice Knight.

SEATTLE -- The Seattle Seahawks will be without Jarran Reed for at least the next four games after placing the veteran defensive tackle on injured reserve Saturday. Reed has been listed on Seattle's injury reports the last two weeks with a wrist injury but played in their win over the Washington Commanders last Sunday night and was a full participant in practice all three days this week.

After missing the Washington Commanders' defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs, quarterback Jayden Daniels was back in the lineup for a crucial Sunday Night Football clash with the Seattle Seahawks. This was the morale boost everyone associated with the franchise needed at a critical time. There was no Terry McLaurin for Daniels to depend upon once again. The wide receiver reaggravated his quad/hip flexor injury in his first game back, and reports suggest he might be out until after the bye week. But with the former LSU standout under center, fans always feel like Washington has a chance.

Mafe, who turns 27 later this month, recorded a total of 15 sacks over the last two seasons, but he enters Sunday with zero sacks and only one tackle for loss in seven games this year. The 2022 second-round draft selection is set to become a free agent after this season. Woolen also was drafted in 2022 by Seattle -- in the sixth round -- and also has struggled this season after a great start to his career.

By giving Lucas a new deal, the Seahawks are making a bet on the health of his surgically repaired knee and a rare reinvestment in one of the key pieces of their offensive line. Lucas, 26, flashed dominance as a rookie in 2022 after the Seahawks drafted him in the third round. But he's been limited to 13 games over the past two seasons

Noah Fant's release from the Seahawks saves the team $9 million in cash and $8.91 million in cap space, with $4.5 million in dead money incurred.
