I pledged no allegiance to any faction during the console wars. But I'll admit I felt, and still feel, most at home in the Xbox ecosystem. It's the achievements, it's the controllers, it's everything. So I couldn't help but feel envy through the years as Nintendo, PlayStation, and even PC diehards all got handheld devices before Xbox. (Sorry, but Cloud Gaming isn't it.)
Microsoft and Asus launched two Xbox-branded ROG Ally handhelds this month, with the higher-end ROG Xbox Ally X priced rather steep at $1,000. Now, Microsoft has said that Asus guided the pricing for the new devices. According to the Xbox parent, the Taiwanese firm, which manufactured the ROG Xbox Ally handhelds, determined the prices based on market considerations, features and other factors.
The ROG Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X launch in less than a month, but as with many new tech products this year, there's some uncertainty on the price of the first Xbox-branded handhelds. Official price points have yet to be confirmed by Microsoft or Asus. As such, it's unclear when preorders will be available ahead of the ROG Xbox Ally's October 16 launch. Clarity on these questions could come very soon, though.
Scheduled for September 25 at 3 AM PT / 6 AM ET, the broadcast will be focused on various first-party, as well as "news from our partners in Japan, across Asia, and around the world," Xbox added. "We know players around the world delight in Japan-inspired content and games developed in Asia, and we can't wait to connect with players across the globe to show off the incredible talent and creativity behind upcoming games coming to Xbox," Xbox Asia senior director Mena Kato said ( via Xbox Wire).
