The Milan-based Filipina designer has built her practice around a single material: banaca, a woven textile made from the fibers of the banana-abaca plant, harvested by hand on the island of Catanduanes in the Bicol region of the Philippines. It's not exactly the kind of material you'd expect to find at the center of a glossy Milanese design studio, and that's exactly the point.

"I'm really happy that people are responding to it. [But] I've been doing this all along. It's funny to see that people are really eating it up and loving it and encouraging me to do more."

Set within a large agricultural garden in a coastal village near Lezhë, Albania, Red House by Pacarizi Studio explores how a single-family dwelling can respond to changing social structures, climatic conditions, and local building cultures. Designed by Gezim Pacarizi, the 350-square-meter home is organized around an open, partially covered courtyard with a pool at its center. The project approaches domestic architecture as a sequence of perceptual experiences shaped by light, movement, and framing, an idea articulated by the architects themselves. 'What you see through a window can be a landscape, a tree, or architecture itself,' they note.

While earth tones are still popular, many clients have been gravitating toward bolder colors for walls and trim. Sometimes, even ceilings are being painted a complementary color as opposed to white. Painted cabinets are still the most popular finishes for kitchens and vanities - many of these are also bolder colors; dark and rich blues and greens have been popular. Things like built-in bookcases and entertainment centers often blend seamlessly into the surrounding trim color.

Kenia Pittman, director of exhibition design operations at the New York Botanical Garden, towers over the Brooklyn Bridge as she talks. But this is more of a baby Brooklyn Bridge than the real thing. It's known for its neutral colorways and "clean" aesthetic, and focuses more on timeless, unfussy designs rather than trends. Designer Wendy Smit's light-filled interiors prove that a family-friendly home doesn't need to sacrifice beauty in favor of function. Southern California-born Smit combines the casual vibe of the West Coast with the polished style of the South in her warm and welcoming residential interiors. Custom millwork, performance materials, and comfortable furnishings come together in spaces that are designed to last, while graceful lighting, vintage pieces, and elegant materials elevate the look.

At the center of the room is a custom dark wood island with a waterfall-edge countertop - a combination of two hot 2025 kitchen trends - situated next to a row of sculptural Blackman Cruz stools. Overhead are three of Hallworth's bronze Ahab pendants, which were designed by Jane Hallworth and selected for the home by Shadley, who described Jen's aesthetic to AD as deeply rooted in "wood, stone, and bronze, materials that have real substance and depth."

Across the expansive 140-acre grounds of The Clark Institute in Williamstown, Massachusetts, six contemporary artists have been invited to create site-specific works engaging with the property's meadows, trails, and woods, while highlighting their individual practices. Sculptures by Yō Akiyama, Laura Ellen Bacon, Aboubakar Fofana, Hugh Hayden, Milena Naef, and Javier Senosiain dot a variety of sites, from manicured parkland to open fields to groves of trees.

"Coastal interiors have soft tones with relaxed and comfortable materials executed with strong lines and intention without feeling too loose or undefined," says Sarah Solis, a Malibu-based interior designer.

If it's going to be rebuilt, I would like it to be rebuilt in a way that matches nature and has good energy.

"It's really scary... It's like all the top chefs in the world shop from the same grocery store," reflects Su Yu-Xin on the limited palettes available to artists, sparking her journey into creating her own pigments.
