Hyundai says it's working to make EV charging as fast as filling up a gas cartargeting about 3 minutes. The aim is partly to ease range anxiety, especially for drivers who can't charge at home. To reach that speed, Hyundai is developing 400 kW charging tech and working on major advances in battery tech without just increasing battery size. When you buy a modern Hyundai electric vehicle, you're already getting a car with some of the fastest DC charging out there.

Thanks to new silicon carbide (SiC) inverters, which are more efficient than traditional silicon semiconductors, the entry-level 2026 BMW i4 eDrive40 can now deliver over 300 miles of range on a full charge, irrespective of the wheel and tire combination. With 18-inch wheels, the rear-wheel drive EV has an estimated range of 333 miles, up 15 miles from the outgoing model. With 19-inch wheels, it can go 307 miles on a full charge, up 12 miles.

The discourse around EV charging usually centers on public fast chargers and Level 2 plugs installed in private homes. But not everyone needs to fast charge at a Tesla Supercharger or Electrify America station every day, unless they're road-tripping. Electrify America is now posting live updates about its DC fast chargers on Google Maps. EV drivers can use the navigation app to find available chargers. In a letter to the city on Sept. 9, U.S. DOT said it was immediately withdrawing the funding for the RAISE grant awarded for the Roxbury Resilient Transportation Corridors project because the project misaligns with the federal government's priorities of promoting "traditional forms of energy and natural resources," due to its use of EV charging stations.
