The 2026 Kia EV4 Simplifies The Formula
"While I had this car, I had a nagging feeling that Kia built it down to a price, and you could see that, especially if you started touching the plastics around the cabin. It just doesn't feel premium enough for a vehicle that, as tested, costs more than 50,000 ($58,000) and still doesn't have all the available options. But it does get plenty of other things right."
"It sits on the company's new E-GMP Lite' underpinnings, with front- rather than rear-wheel drive, lower peak charging power, and a driving experience that leans much more toward sensible than spirited. After a few days with it around Bucharestover bumpy, poorly maintained roads, tram tracks, tight parking maneuvers and the occasional squirt of accelerationthe EV4 made it pretty clear what it's about. It's excellent as a calm, efficient commuter, but as something you'd seek out just to drive, it falls a bit short."
The EV4 uses Kia's new E‑GMP Lite 400V architecture to lower cost by shifting to front-wheel drive and reducing peak charging power. The vehicle pairs an 81.4 kWh battery with 201 hp, a WLTP range of 391 miles, and CCS charging at up to 135 kW, reaching 10–80% in about 31 minutes. The EV4 is offered as hatchback and sedan flavors, though the U.S. four-door plan was canceled due to tariffs. The driving character favors calm, efficient commuting over spirited performance. Interior materials feel downmarket for tested pricing above $50,000, though many core functions perform well.
