Lighting it up since 1975, San Francisco celebrates the 50th anniversary of the first giant public menorah outside Israel, a landmark Bill Graham project that went on to inspire thousands of menorahs around the world. This year's eight-night festival brings music, community gatherings, and nightly ceremonies honoring leaders and traditions across the Jewish community. For decades, Seddio was the force behind Canarsie's most famous holiday attraction: a dazzling display at his law office at Flatlands Avenue and East 93rd Street. Each year, the building was wrapped in more than 150,000 lights and filled with mechanical figures, moving scenes and inflatable decorations that attracted thousands of visitors and rivaled the most elaborate displays across the five boroughs. The tradition stretched nearly 50 years before dimming in 2021, when Seddio put the historic property up for sale.

More than 550 people attended to cheer on the eclectic group of trailblazers, stars and out-and-out icons. This year's Hall of Fame honorees were San Jose Earthquakes star Landon Donovan; USA Rugby's "Captain America," Todd Clever; women's wrestling pioneer Afsoon Roshanzamir Johnston; longtime Oak Grove High football coach Eddie Buller and retired San Jose Giants General Manager Mark Wilson, who will go down in history as the man who invented the "beer batter" promotion.

Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee announced on Tuesday that there will be a big rally and parade for the Pioneer League champions.
