"You know in life, we have the ups and downs, and I had my ups and downs,"
"When I was on my worst 'down,' they were there for me with food, clothes, computer guidance, medical -- I needed everything because I was lost,"
"We started in 1950, with 400 meals on the first day. We are now at 2,000 meals per day for a cumulative amount of 48 Million since we started in 1950,"
"We care for everyone as if hospitality is sacred that we are inviting them to a table,"
St. Anthony Foundation in San Francisco marks 75 years of service to vulnerable neighbors in the Tenderloin. Founder Father Alfred Boeddeker built the organization on principles of dignity and hospitality. The dining room has served hot meals nonstop since 1950, growing from 400 meals on the first day to about 2,000 daily and a cumulative 48 million meals. Services now include medical care, drug and alcohol recovery programming, clothing distribution, housing assistance, and computer guidance. Volunteers, clients, and community members gathered on Golden Gate Avenue for a block party celebrating the milestone.
