Mission Community Market turns 15 on Thursday. Prepare for festivities.
Briefly

The Mission Community Market takes place every Thursday, featuring food stalls and various vendors from eggplants to strawberries. It serves as a space where the community connects and celebrates. Initially, it struggled with low attendance but has now grown significantly since its expansion in 2014. The market serves between 1,000-1,500 customers weekly and has expanded from 10 to nearly 30 vendors. Managed by Foodwise since 2019, the market has become a vital part of the neighborhood, embodying community spirit and growth.
"At first, every day was a little sad because not many [people] showed up," said Poli Yerena, a vendor, of those early years.
"Everybody shops with Poli," a passerby gleefully shouted when Yerena explained he was being interviewed.
Now, they see 1,000-1,500 customers every Thursday, said Andrea Akers, the market's manager.
On Thursday the market's Quinceañera will mean celebrating its growth from 10 to nearly 30 sellers.
