The larger share of the order consists of 200 Scania intercity buses equipped with CNG fuel systems designed for extended range, allocated to services within the Paris region.
In China's cut-throat domestic market, nearly every big carmaker is investing heavily in the software and computing power needed to make hands-free driving a reality as they compete to offer additional perks and find new ways to generate revenue.
The real problem is infrastructure, not vehicle safety. Roadways are open systems with infinite variables—weather, pedestrians, distracted drivers, and aging infrastructure. Communication between vehicles is minimal, and infrastructure is largely silent—and in that gap lies the potential for deadly collisions.
"Fuel use increases significantly at higher speeds, so even a relatively small reduction can result in noticeable savings," he stated. He added that lowering motorway speeds could improve fuel efficiency by around 10%, depending on the vehicle.
The delivery follows an initial batch of 10 buses introduced in August 2025, bringing the total number of vehicles supplied under the programme to 100. The buses have been integrated into the NTC fleet, which has historically operated an ageing vehicle base.
Intercity bus transport in Europe is characterized by a fragmented operator landscape, including a high number of small and medium-sized companies, alongside less standardized operational patterns and frequent dual-use vehicle profiles.
The new technology allows drivers to see actual New York streets and experiences, which ultimately makes bus rides safer for customers. The more we can give them real tools to simulate what real life is like, the better they're going to be once they hit the road.
"Consumers don't have all the information at once," Griffin Li, the app's 19-year-old creator, told SFGATE. "They have to sort of make suboptimal decisions and spend more money. And this is just a way to help."
