Up and down the length of the 650-metre-long space, people come and go, bikes and scooters weaving in and out of the crowds. Next year, this scene will look somewhat different: bikes and scooters will be banned from this 18,000-sq-metre pedestrian zone for most of the day. People on two wheels will be allowed to ride only between 4am and 11am. At all other times, they must dismount and push their vehicle up the street, or face a fine.

Soho's Carnaby Street could get a bit of a makeover as the estate owners are consulting on plans. The consultation proposes a general revamp of Carnaby Street and improvements to its links with the surrounding streets. They want to create new wayfinding signs, change the lighting and increase the amount of planting in the area. The main change is likely to be the pavement though, as they propose removing the existing artificial stone paving and replacing it with something more natural-looking.

Now it's a Sunday market that specialises in street food and is home to independent sellers flogging everything from second hand books, to handmade jewellery.

The proposals include making Regent Street St James's traffic-free and enlarging the pedestrian space at Piccadilly Circus. The introduction of safer cycling routes on the main section of Regent Street and two-way traffic on Haymarket, plus the improvement of pedestrian crossings on Regent Street and the removal of the road's central island have also been presented.

The trial pedestrianisation of Camden High Street aims to improve public space and reduce pavement crowding, lasting 18 months with various events planned.
