Regent Street to go car-free for 'festive fun' day
"The central London street will be pedestrianised between Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus and transformed into a "festive winter wonderland" from 14:00 to 21:00 GMT on Saturday, 6 December. Instead of traffic, this stretch will become a "festive mile", occupied by pop-up food and drink stalls and roving entertainers, organisers said. Oxford Street went car-free for a day in September to demonstrate how the mayor of London's plans to ban traffic from a stretch of the road could work."
"As part of Regent Street's "day of festive fun", three vintage red double decker buses are due to be parked up offering bookable crafts, gift wrapping, a seasonal "selfie station" and a disco bus bringing live music from DJs and choirs. A number of local shopping deals will also be on offer throughout the day. Regent Street's famous Grade II listed architecture and curved facades is home to the original Hamleys toy shop plus well known branded stores including Apple, Armani, Polo and Burberry."
Regent Street will be closed to traffic between Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus on Saturday 6 December, from 14:00 to 21:00 GMT, creating a pedestrianised 'festive mile' for car-free Christmas shopping and celebrations. Pop-up food and drink stalls and roving entertainers will occupy the street. Three vintage red double-decker buses will offer bookable crafts, gift wrapping, a seasonal 'selfie station' and a disco bus with live DJs and choirs. Local shops will run special deals throughout the day. The street's Grade II listed architecture houses stores such as Hamleys, Apple, Armani, Polo and Burberry. Regent Street was last closed to traffic at weekends before Christmas in 2020.
