Oxford Street pedestrianisation is going ahead, says Sadiq Khan - with almost a mile becoming traffic-free
Briefly

Sir Sadiq Khan announced a plan to pedestrianise Oxford Circus based on strong support from a nine-week consultation, where two-thirds of respondents favored the initiative. The proposals aim to transform almost a mile of Oxford Street, with extensions beyond initial boundaries and potential completion by 2027. Selfridges and other major retail businesses expressed their support for the plan, intending to foster outdoor events and improve the shopping experience, although there will be restrictions on cycling during busy hours. This development will be implemented through a new Mayoral Development Corporation.
