Seriously though, everything is so fragile right now: Arts and culture funding continues draining, healthcare is a shambles, social services are being razed, along with everything else that's bonkers. The one thing that's not fragile? Community. The communities we build around ourselves are what will help us survive. Start a union at work, in your building, at school. Talk to people at shows and protests. Start a soup night, it's November! There're a lot of ways to get through Portland's (and America's) Big Dark, you just gotta chose your own adventure....

Home to around 1,000 residents, Cave Spring, Georgia, sits a few miles from the Alabama state line and is only a 1.5-hour drive from Atlanta-and during the fall, it's the perfect destination for a day trip. For a weekly email blast of the best in San Francisco culture, sign up for our Fogcutter newsletter . It's been a busy week in the Bay Area. On Thursday, the East Bay was hit with a small quake on the same day as California's annual earthquake drill. In Solano County, bakers made a 7-foot Labubu out of bread, and in San Francisco, neighbors are complaining about "screaming" Waymos on their dead-end street. Dreamforce packed SoMa with thousands of lanyarded visitors,
Most of us can agree that while we love dogs, our neighborhood lacks the necessary resources to ensure they peacefully coexist with humans. In honor of her new book, we shared an excerpt from Hilary Fitzgerald Campbell's The Joy of Snacking (if you've ever experienced choice paralysis at one of our many great bakeries, it should resonate with you).
Perhaps no cuisine is as frustratingly scarce in the Bay Area as the one I was born into - Armenian food. While San Francisco once boasted a world-famous Armenian restaurant, you can't find so much as a food truck now with an officially Armenian menu. As if taunting me, Los Angeles with its larger diaspora population has a thriving Armenian food scene, including one restaurant in the Michelin Guide.
We sell candy and nuts, and started a popular 'dollar bin' promotion. It began when we found a big stash of Christmas goodies in May - and, well, May isn't exactly peppermint season. So our marketing manager, Adam Walsh, proposed that we put it out for a dollar. It was a hit. Now we pull out the bin whenever we have product we want to move quickly. Everything is clearly labeled if it's near the best-by date or a little broken - kind of like a scratch-and-dent sale, but for candy.
"The popular Sunset Night Market on Irving Street, which was launched in part by Supervisor Joel Engardio in September 2023, returned for two consecutive months last summer, on August 30 and September 27."
If you were rightfully disappointed by last year's Emilia Pérez, I'd like to point you toward Pedro Almodóvar's Oscar-snagging '99 melodrama, which follows the stories of a trans sex worker, a grieving mother, and a pregnant, HIV-positive nun.
