You can get free backpacks and supplies at this back-to-school giveaway drive all month long
Briefly

New York Restoration Project will distribute over 1,200 backpacks filled with school supplies at community gardens in all five boroughs from August 10 through the end of the month. This initiative, supported by the Citizens Philanthropic Foundation, aims to ease back-to-school costs for families. Each backpack contains essential items like notebooks, pencils, and crayons, available on a first come, first served basis. Events will include extra activities and community engagement, reinforcing NYRP's mission to utilize public gardens as community resource hubs.
Beginning Sunday, August 10, the nonprofit will give away more than 1,200 backpacks stocked with school supplies at community gardens across all five boroughs, running through the end of the month.
The backpack drive is part of its broader mission to make those spaces hubs for community resources, not just greenery.
Events will pop up throughout the city, often in partnership with local councilmembers and featuring extra activities.
By holding the events in its gardens, NYRP also introduces families to green spaces that many may not realize are open to the public.
