He got off to a blistering start once being called up from Triple-A. Concerns over his inability to hit high velocity were temporarily cooled as Kim boasted an average north of .300 for months. Once opposing teams made their adjustments, Kim's numbers and involvement with the team plummeted. He essentially became a late-game defensive replacement rather than a spot starter down the stretch. Kim's strikeout rate (30.6 percent) would've ranked him towards the bottom of the league for a full season.
He's made a couple starts as of late as a multi-inning opener type, and now has a 5.01 ERA across 46.2 innings pitched as a starter, compared to a 2.41 ERA in 37.1 innings out of the bullpen. His last time out he allowed one run on three hits and three walks across three innings against the Cardinals on 46 pitches, before Pittsburgh turned to Bubba Chandler for four innings.
Taehyung Kim, more popularly known as V from the South Korean boy band BTS, visited Dodger Stadium on Monday to the joy of many fans. V was honored by throwing out the ceremonial first pitch and saying "It's time for Dodger baseball" before the game began. Each time he went onto the field, high-pitched cheers filled the stadium from a packed crowd of 49,702 people.
