Kim was a revelation during the regular season for the Dodgers, injecting a much needed spark when the team needed it through quality contact hitting and stellar base running. He started the year on the minor league roster, so he could adjust his mechanics and swing to the States. His work paid dividends early on, but a shoulder injury and slump following his hot start relegated him to a platoon role when he returned.
He's made a couple starts as of late as a multi-inning opener type, and now has a 5.01 ERA across 46.2 innings pitched as a starter, compared to a 2.41 ERA in 37.1 innings out of the bullpen. His last time out he allowed one run on three hits and three walks across three innings against the Cardinals on 46 pitches, before Pittsburgh turned to Bubba Chandler for four innings.
Taehyung Kim, more popularly known as V from the South Korean boy band BTS, visited Dodger Stadium on Monday to the joy of many fans. V was honored by throwing out the ceremonial first pitch and saying "It's time for Dodger baseball" before the game began. Each time he went onto the field, high-pitched cheers filled the stadium from a packed crowd of 49,702 people.
