Appointed as Dave Dombrowski's successor as Boston's chief baseball officer in October 2019, one of Bloom's first orders of business with the Red Sox was to determine the future of franchise star Mookie Betts. Bloom and the Red Sox - unable to come to terms on a long-term extension with Betts - ultimately traded him to the Dodgers in February 2020 (along with David Price) in exchange for Alex Verdugo, Jeter Downs, and Connor Wong.
Gold Glove winners for the nine standard positions are determined through voting by MLB managers and up to six coaches from each team. Managers and coaches cannot vote for their own players and are only permitted to submit ballots for those in their same league. Those votes amount to 75% of the selection total, with the SABR Defensive Index accounting for the remaining 25%.
I take a lot of pride in it because at the start of the season I wasn't sure I would end the season there, I thought there may have to be adjustment at some point because from lack of trust or whatever. The only time the Rockies put a runner in scoring position was in the fourth inning with two outs, which was the result of a walk and a stolen base by Ezequiel Tovar. Other than that, Snell only allowed two singles and didn't allow them to advance.
Tyler Glasnow was brilliant over seven no-hit innings, striking out 11. Reliever Blake Treinen pitched a perfect eighth before Ryan Ritter broke up the no-hitter by lining Tanner Scott 's third pitch to left field for a double. The ball appeared catchable off the bat, but left fielder Alex Call turned the wrong way, costing him any chance to make a play.
