He didn't know the power of this thing. He just wanted it for its accordion sounds. Still, the instrument fascinated the burgeoning musician, and by the time he was five, he had stumbled on an old VHS concert doc that showed him the real power of analog machinery. I was completely consumed by the mystery of how these things were being made.
Adam Linder's Acid Gems is like a classical ballet that's been plugged into a neon socket. The Australian choreographer was apparently inspired by Balanchine's famous Jewels, itself a dance reflection of the sparkle of a jeweller's display window, put through Balanchine's rigorous neo-classical filter.
We've been excited about the potential of this project for some time. Built on a foundation of unique programming, ambitious production, and obsessive attention to detail, Open-Air sits on the bank of the River Thames at Greenwich Peninsula, bringing people closer to London's iconic skyline than ever before.
Known for blending the warmth of her Latin American roots with the energy of Berlin's club scene, Kourtesis has quickly become one of electronic music's most exciting rising stars. Her debut album is a deeply personal project inspired by love, resilience, and hope, dedicated to her mother and the neurosurgeon who helped save her life.
Black Coffee is one of electronic music's most influential figures. The Grammy Award-winning artist is celebrated for blending Afro-house, deep house and soulful electronic sounds in both his sets and productions, and has been hypnotising crowds at major festivals and iconic venues worldwide for more than a decade.
Seefeel will return with their first full-length in 15 years, Sol.Hz, on May 1, via their longtime label Warp. The follow-up to their 2024 mini-albums Everything Squared and Squared Roots will arrive in the middle of a tour of mainland Europe that starts in April.
This release is about connection. Not in a strategic sense, but in terms of feeling part of a scene rather than orbiting around it. There's a lot of really strong music coming out of Australia right now, especially in the underground, and this felt like the right moment to place something there.
Nine Inch Nails did the score for last year's TRON:Ares - the best thing about the movie to be honest - and they've now released a companion album that they dropped with no warning on streaming services today with no official announcement or acknowledgement yet from NIN themselves.
DJ-Kicks is a series that shaped how I think about DJing and listening. I played the DJ Koze mix an unhealthy number of times, to the point where it basically lives in my DNA now. Those mixes taught me that the best ones aren't about showing off; they're about taking people on a journey. They move, twist and surprise you. They give you goosebumps when you least expect it.
Here are five shows worth catching at the 2026 Noise Pop Festival, which runs Feb. 19-March 1 at a plethora of venues mostly located in San Francisco. The picks are listed in chronologically order, which has the added benefit of lifting one of our favorite local artists the South Bay's own Giraffage right to the top. For more information and to purchase tickets visit noisepopfest.com.
KAVARI's music sears like a controlled fire, destroying the underbrush to make room for the new. That was literally true of the Glasgow-based producer's 2025 EP Only Pleasure in Flame, a collection of slash-and-burn field recordings that sucked the air right out of your ears. The Scottish sea air has produced a number of maverick electronic musicians- Rustie, SOPHIE, Hudson Mohawke, Proc Fiskal-and in recent years, KAVARI's prolific, sound design-forward work is arguing the case for her induction into the pantheon.
No matter who Sam Shackleton plays with, you recognize his handiwork immediately: Since he began weaving together North African percussion and dubstep-inspired basslines more than two decades ago, he's developed one of the most distinctive styles in electronic music. He long ago shed virtually all traces of conventional UK bass music, effectively evolving into a genre of one. Dubstep was always a misnomer for his music, which never stepped, but flowed.
This move reflects the strength of our vision, the resilience of our platform, and our ambition to help shape the future of entertainment on a global stage. We are entering a city that influences how the world thinks, creates, and connects
Deep Water composer Miller is the co-coordinator of PSU's Sonic Arts and Music Production program. Miller sat at a table in the front row during the performance, operating Ableton from a laptop and running a video camera. These electronic elements added a new dimension to the chamber opera, using synthesized sounds and manipulated field recordings to evoke a cold, post-human world.
It hosts mostly corporate events and banquets, but also played host to those Zedd, Noah Kahan, and The Chainsmokers concerts during last year's NBA All-Star Game Weekend, and the Grahame Lesh & Friends afterparty shows during the Dead & Company concerts in August. And on an unrelated note, Coachella festival promoter Goldenvoice has been throwing the EDM-heavy Portola festival down at Pier 80 since 2022, plus they added a Skrillex and Four Tet show at the same location the night before this past New Year's Eve.
Here, in the omphalos of the newly-minted Commie Corridor was a display of cultural force every bit as robust as the political one which had recently vaulted socialist Zohran Mamdani to the Democratic nomination (and, in short order, the mayoralty). So why, then, as the Rochdale duo took the stage in their preferred semi-darkness, was the atmosphere cut with an unmistakable current of dread?
Fisher marked the first time Moscone Center hosted something enormous like this; I went on the second night of a two-night takeover, December 20. Operationally, it ran surprisingly smoothly for a first-time venue. Crowd-wise: a lot of phones, a lot of jerseys, a lot of people filming drops they will absolutely never watch again. It felt like a first "rave" moment for a lot of folks since it was an 18+ event.
Headlining the lineup are John Summit, Purple Disco Machine, and Layton Giordani, delivering a full spectrum of house and techno that will set the tone for the year ahead. Each venue will feature its own immersive world of light, sound, and art-Pier 80 as the main stage spectacle, The Midway as the creative heart, and 888 Garage as an intimate, high-energy space for true music lovers.
The Brazilian cultural platform announces its most ambitious Carnival program to date, returning to Rio de Janeiro with six nights of curated experiences at the Museu do Amanhã - the most visited museum in Latin America and one of the most iconic architectural landmarks in the world. Designed by Santiago Calatrava and set against Guanabara Bay, the museum once again becomes more than a venue.
Third Thursdays on Ellis, or just "On Ellis," launched first as a pre-Portola block party in September, and the events in October and November, featuring electro DJs Wax Motif and Joel Corry have been pretty lit, as the kids say, with thousands in attendance. The event happens outside the historic John's Grill, and it seems to have caught on with a younger party crowd in a much bigger way than the similar Fridays on Front Street, likely because of the music acts who have been booked and the more rave-y atmosphere.
Cuddly UK DJ, music-maker, and often-fascinating collaborator Fred Again dropped into the Cow Palace on Friday night for the ninth stop of his "10 Shows in 10 Cities in 10 Weeks" sprint, promoting new release . San Francisco (well, technically Daly City) only got four days' notice, but that didn't stop the main arena from selling out in minutes. The ticket was officially $87, but you know how it goes:
A disciple of John Cage, Moran uses prepared-piano techniques - inserting objects on and between the strings, sometimes playing the strings with her fingers or an EBow - along with electronic-music treatments (she's collaborated with Daniel Lopatin and performed in Oneohtrix Point Never's band on the Age Of tour, and it shows). Time and again on Don't Trust Mirrors, Moran tricks the listener into thinking the main instrument here is harp, which, if you're a fan of Mary Lattimore or Brandee Younger, is a plus. This legerdemain reflects the title's admonition that all is not what it seems.
At night in New York, builds worlds out of voltage and digital wavelengths. His story begins in northwest Arkansas, where Nicholas Long grew up among his father's guitars and the hum of Passing Note Studio. A Depeche Mode concert in 1991 flipped the switch, sending him home with a Roland Juno 106 that became his permanent obsession. From then on, he spoke in oscillators and filters, carrying the studio's name forward after his father's death as a gesture of memory and continuity.
For decades, musical performances and other non-religious public gatherings were strictly controlled by the Saudi government. This practically confined most forms of public cultural expression, especially music, to the privacy of homes and gated communities. By 2016, the country witnessed wholesale social, cultural, and economic transformations to wean off religious extremism, improve the quality of life, and attract foreign investment.
Since it was founded, just a little over a decade ago, Wisdom Teeth has traversed a gamut of styles, moving as steadily as the progress bar crawling across the waveform of a DJ mix. Early experiments in dubstep gave way to unorthodox bass music and leftfield techno; successive compilations have been dedicated to narrowly bounded experiments in the wiggly terrain around 100 BPM or the quick-stepping possibilities of the 150-170 zone.
The album was produced by the band's Daniel Hunt with sessions in Liverpool, São Paulo, Montrose, Dalston, and London, with mixing duties handled by longtime collaborator Jim Abbiss. While always an electronic band, Ladytron have made their most dancefloor-forward album with Paradises. "There's an itch we never scratched," Hunt says, "which is that despite our origins in the DJ world, we never actually made a 'disco' record. Albeit, 'disco' in our context has a somewhat different meaning."
Art With Me has unveiled the full lineup for its 2025 Miami edition, which returns December 5 - 6 with an expanded experience at a new venue, the RC Cola Plant + Green Space at Mana Wynwood. The festival partners with Zamna and Disco Presents to deliver two days of music, art and immersive culture during Art Basel Miami Beach and Miami Art Week.
