"Her murmured lines on the downbeat "void 222"-"Tryna figure out what the void is/I'm tryna find it in my senses"-lack any expression. Brooklyn producer JWords creates danceable chill beats that evoke isolated, anxious spaces near the dancefloor, such as bathrooms, club lines, laggy livestreams, and back alleys. Her earlier album Self-Connection culminated in “Anxious,” combining rickety percussion and throbbing synths with occasional soft melodies. Sound Therapy takes a different approach by using gentle synth melodies and pads to soften her skittering drums and pounding basslines, aiming to calm her nervous system. The result feels slight and anonymous compared to her past work.
