When the Tomb Raider reboot landed back in 2013, it did something risky. It took an icon who had spent decades as an untouchable, dual-pistol-wielding force of nature, and broke her. Gone were Lara Croft's guns akimbo and her wink-at-the-camera cockiness in favour of a makeshift bow and a desperate, mud-caked struggle to stay alive on the island of Yamatai.
For a lot of the games I've written about in the C:\ArsGames series, I've come to the conclusion that the games hold up pretty well, despite their age- Master of Orion II, Jill of the Jungle, and Wing Commander Privateer, for example. Each of those have flaws that show now more than ever, but I still had a blast revisiting each of them.
While 10 actors have been confirmed, most of the roles remain mysterious. We do know that Sophie Turner is playing Lara Croft and Sigourney Weaver is playing someone named Wallace. Weaver herself volunteered this information in a media interview, but Prime Video has not confirmed it. Wallace may be a new character created for the show. The Tomb Raider TV show is set to begin filming this month.
"We've successfully brought back the classic era [Tomb Raider 1-6] and now the origin story of Lara Croft to modern Nintendo platforms," said Reese. "We can't announce anything at the moment, but the passionate response to this release is strong encouragement for us to continue exploring those possibilities."
Dragon Age and Cyberpunk 2077 voice actor Alix Wilton Regan told she recorded "entire chapters" for Perfect Dark before being "blindsided" by its cancelation. She's now playing Lara in Tomb Raider: Catalyst and Legacy of Atlantis, but still harbors concerns in the back of her mind about those projects suddenly facing trouble as well. "The saving grace for me when Perfect Dark fell apart was that I'd already been shooting Lara for about a year as well," she said.
