Welcoming, sophisticated and bright with natural lighting, Poppy & Claro is a concept by Jay Paul Company, located off the lobby at 50 W. San Fernando St. in downtown San Jose. Black walnut wood accents (claro) and soft seating, featuring functional, custom-crafted furniture, along with handsome bespoke wall decor inspired by the Golden State, draw you in. The ambiance is open and airy, yet somehow intimate.
The restaurant opened Tuesday at Town & Country Village shopping center with an egg-forward sandwich menu that includes the obligatory scrambled eggs, cheddar, caramelized onions, arugula and aioli on a bun (called the BFF); the BEC, with bacon, eggs and cheddar; the Ono, which is fried chicken, fried egg and sriracha aioli; and versions featuring pork belly or avocado or shiitake mushrooms.
