San Leandro: Philz Coffee is bringing the pour-overs (and cool new artwork)
"Baristas will start making the shop's pour-over coffees and popular Mint Mojito lattes with freshly roasted beans next week, with soft-opening hours of 8 a.m. to noon Monday, March 16, and Tuesday, March 17. The grand opening is Wednesday, March 18, when the official business hours of 5:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. will go into effect."
"The focal point is a mural that Philz commissioned from Bay Area artist Nigel Sussman that depicts San Leandro's history, agricultural roots and local landmarks, from the famed cherry orchards to a favorite long-ago raceway. Another mural will stress Philz's "one cup at a time" brewing philosophy."
"Founder Phil Jaber launched his San Francisco shop in 2003 - and that was decades after he started experimenting with blending beans. The company now boasts 82 shops around in the nation."
Philz Coffee, founded by Phil Jaber in 2003, is expanding to San Leandro with its first location in the city. The 2,500-square-foot shop features a sleek midcentury-modern design with seating for 43 customers and opens March 18 with hours from 5:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The space showcases two murals: one by Bay Area artist Nigel Sussman depicting San Leandro's history and agricultural heritage, and another highlighting Philz's pour-over brewing philosophy. The menu includes signature items like Mint Mojito lattes and seasonal specials such as Pistachio Spice and Cashew Cocoa beverages. With 82 locations nationwide, this marks the second Philz in mid-Alameda County.
