A woman has been charged with murder after the death of a pensioner on Christmas Day. Stefania Glowka, 63, is accused of killing Tamara Glowka, who was in her 80s. The Polish national was remanded in custody during a hearing at Bristol Crown Court on Wednesday, at which she did not appear. Glowka is next due to appear in court on March 20 2026 and a provisional trial date has been set for June 1 2026. She has not entered a plea.
"Gardaí and emergency services responded to medical incident which occurred at a sports facility in Longford town today, Monday December 8 at approximately 10.40am," said a garda spokesperson. "A man, aged in his 50s, was taken to the Regional Hospital Mullingar where he was pronounced deceased. The Health and Safety Authority has been notified (and) the local Coroner has been informed. "A post-mortem examination will take place in due course, the results of which will determine the course of the investigation."
