"The male, aged in his 40s, was discovered in the Doneraile area of Mallow in the early hours of this morning. While gardaí have said that they are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the man's death at a house on Rockfield Terrace, early indications are that the victim died violently. Investigators are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination to confirm the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident and have allocated the resources of a murder inquiry to the investigation."

It is still very early in the investigation but this is expected to be upgraded to a murder inquiry in due course." The assistant state pathologist, Dr Margot Bolster, is due to attend the scene, where the man's body remains. A senior investigating officer has been appointed to lead the investigation and an incident room has been established at Mallow garda station."
