Gardai launch probe into 'suspicious' discovery of woman's (50s) body in Cavan town

"Gardaí are investigating the death of a woman in her 50s who was found unresponsive at a residential property on Connolly Street, Cavan, shortly after 2am on 7 April 2026. The coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have been notified, and a post-mortem examination will be arranged."

"Sources close to the probe say senior investigators are 'not satisfied' with an account which was given to gardaí by a witness shortly after the alarm was raised. 'They (investigators) aren't 100pc happy with it,' said the source."

"The scene is also close to where a man's body was found less than four weeks earlier. For the time being, Gardaí are remaining tight-lipped on whether any foul play was involved by insisting the findings of a pending post-mortem will dictate the course of their investigation."

A woman in her 50s was discovered unresponsive in an apartment complex on Connolly Street, Cavan, shortly after 2am on April 7, 2026. Emergency services pronounced her dead at the scene.
