His heart did in fact stop beating during the incident on Dec. 9, 2025. He said that he does not really remember much about it, but that he was told he stopped breathing and that he was turning purple. Dick said the only thing he did recall was waking up in the ambulance.

It affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, causing loss of muscle control and getting worse over time. ALS causes nerve cells in the upper and lower parts of the body to stop working and die. Nerves no longer trigger specific muscles, eventually leading to paralysis. People with ALS may develop problems with mobility, speaking, swallowing and breathing.

The Creek, as you called it when you explained why you were busy on Wednesday nights, blew up out of the box, helping The WB find its teen serial lane along with shows like Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Felicity, and later Charmed and Smallville. Like the characters on the rest of those shows, the kids on The Creek had superpowers, and theirs was the coolest of all: they talked like wise, insightful grownups who'd read a lot of books.
