Memorial services will be held at the Sydney Opera House and Bondi's Chabad House, a Jewish community centre. Most of the 15 victims of the attack were Jewish, including a 10-year-old child. The theme of the memorials is Light will win, and the government will stage light installations in the capital of Canberra and other cities featuring pillars of light for each of the 15 victims.
Bangladesh is observing a national day of mourning ahead of the funeral of Sharif Osman Hadi, a prominent leader of its 2024 student-led uprising, after his death triggered two days of protests across the country. Police wearing body cameras were deployed across the capital city, Dhaka, on Saturday as Hadi's funeral was scheduled to begin at 2pm (08:00 GMT) at the South Plaza of Bangladesh's parliament house, known locally as Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
"It's a tragic day for our city. ... Lisbon is in mourning, it is a tragic, tragic incident," Carlos Moedas, mayor of the Portuguese capital, told reporters.
