On the afternoon of Sunday, August 11, 2024, a few hours after attending church with his wife and three children, Ryan Borgwardt, a 44-year-old carpenter, left home with his kayak, tackle box, and fishing rod and arrived at Big Green Lake, one of the deepest lakes in Wisconsin. The Perseid meteor shower was expected to peak that night, one of the best times of the year to see shooting stars.
Laurent Gregoire, a 28-year-old computer programmer from France, met Indonesian-born Samba Rukmi Widhyastuti, 64, at a hostel in the French city of Bordeaux in November 2015, according to testimony before the court in the western city of Nantes. Investigators said the two had travelled together in Spain a few weeks later. Gregoire was last seen in Andorra, the small principality sandwiched between France and Spain. He was spotted leaving a hostel there carrying a backpack on September 12, 2016.
The younger Hou believes his father has been kidnapped and is personally offering a reward of up to $250,000 for information that leads to his father's return or identifies those responsible for his disappearance.
