The family of 2-year-old Montrell Williams, believed to be murdered by his father, is contemplating a lawsuit against New York City for negligence. Rev. Kevin McCall criticized the NYPD for their poor handling of the disappearance, stating that Montrell's mother took desperate measures to find her son after he was not returned by his father. A police statement acknowledged the tragedy of Montrell's death, but the family contends that a 911 dispatcher's failure to follow up contributed to the situation.
"The police department knew that this was a missing case and they failed the family," McCall said. He described the desperate lengths Montrell's 17-year-old mother went to in order to find Montrell after, officials say, Arius Williams failed to return him to her.
"She was right there at the location at the McDonald's to pick up her son, and she waited and the father never showed up with Montrell," said McCall, who has been working with the family.
