Australia's new 'right to disconnect' law empowers workers to ignore after-hours communications without fear of retaliation, promoting a healthier work-life balance.
"Before we had digital technology, there was no encroachment. People would go home at the end of a shift, and there would be no contact until they returned the following day," John Hopkins, a Swinburne University of Technology professor, said.
"If it was an emergency situation, of course, people would expect an employee to respond to something like that," said Senator Murray Watt. "But if it's a run-of-the-mill thing, then they should wait till the next work day."
