Bush's promise at the Republican National Convention in 1988 of "Read my lips: no new taxes," a pledge that he reneged on later in his tenure when he raised taxes in 1990.And how could I ever forget the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska, where 11 million gallons of oil fouled one of the most pristine and sensitive environments on the planet.
