Public support for him has declined significantly since the climbdown, and after the emotional moment of Rachel Reeves in the Commons, a new poll indicates a dismal approval rating of -43. Voters have experienced discontent with Starmer's leadership, with many believing his government is as chaotic as or more chaotic than the previous Tory government.

Work and Pensions Secretary Liz Kendall stated that changes to Personal Independence Payment (Pip) will only apply to new claimants, and existing recipients' payments will not be frozen.

Supporters of the reforms argue that the welfare system is broken and needs urgent change to remain sustainable and to better support people wanting to return to work.
