18th annual Silicon Valley Turkey Trot takes to the streets of San Jose

Pedestrian traffic along Santa Clara Street in downtown San Jose was cheek to jowl Thursday morning.That's because thousands of people had cued up for the annual running of the Silicon Valley Turkey Trot.Sponsored by Applied Materials and started by the Silicon Valley Leadership Group Foundation, the event attracted more than 18,000 registrants this year according to Laura Wilkinson.

Ever since the September closure of Walnut Creek's El Charro, the Mexican restaurant with a 73-year history in the East Bay, locals have been wondering what will take its place on the downtown corner of N. Broadway and Lincoln Avenue.The answer: Another Mexican restaurant.Shannon Orr, the Chief Operating Officer of 1100 Group, the Oakland-based restaurant group that owns the restaurant, told The Mercury News that the new restaurant, Bar Camino, is slated to open for lunch and dinner service at 1470 N. Broadway sometime in mid November.
