Bay Area art school closures continue as Contra Costa School of Performing Arts takes its curtain call
Briefly

The Contra Costa School of Performing Arts is set to close in June after nearly a decade of serving students in the performing arts. The decision, made by school administrators, is attributed to rising facility costs and a significant drop in enrollment, rendering the school financially unsustainable. This nonprofit charter school, which offered a unique project-based learning environment, has previously enjoyed an enrollment capacity of up to 725 students. The property, now up for sale, is located in Walnut Creek's evolving Shadelands area, which witnesses new commercial and residential developments.
"Unfortunately, just like so many others, we were hit very hard after COVID for a variety of things, and we just weren't in a position to make it work financially anymore."
"The school's closure comes roughly eight years after the charter established its campus and one year before its most recent charter authorization was originally set to expire."
