According to grid operator RTE, the power outage affected 160,000 homes in Cannes and the surrounding area. The glitzy holiday destination has been hit by a power outage, causing traffic lights to fail and leading to traffic jams.
The negotiation seemed harmless at first, as Mary Frances agreed to allow her neighbors access, believing it was a temporary arrangement. However, over the years, the situation worsened, with constant disturbances from cars and vans affecting her work and livestock.
"If this closure goes into effect, the majority of the residents and businesses on this block will have their lives disrupted as cars, cabs and ambulances will not be able to get through," said Marie Stareck, a senior on the block. "The Open Streets program benefits the privileged few and hurts tax-paying citizens."
