Swans close M25 motorway lanes causing six-mile traffic jam
Briefly

On Thursday, a pair of swans brought part of the M25 to a standstill, blocking two lanes and creating over six miles of traffic jams. The disruption occurred near Leatherhead and Wisley around 9:20 am, causing an additional 45 minutes of delays for motorists. This incident was distinct from another situation occurring the same morning involving a collision that led to further lane closures and significant congestion. National Highways noted that swans have a history of causing traffic issues in the area, with past incidents reported on the Elizabeth line.
Two lanes of the M25 were closed for an hour due to a couple of swans in the road, causing 6.5 miles of congestion during rush hour.
The incident resulted in significant delays, with commuters facing an additional 45 minutes on their journey due to traffic backed up on the M25.
This isn't the first swan-related disruption; earlier in June, a section of the Elizabeth line was also blocked by a swan.
Further issues arose along the M25 that morning due to a different incident, resulting in 90-minute queues and an ongoing diesel spill cleanup.
