Jim E Brown, the self-professed 19-year-old singer "born in Manchester on September 10, 2001, just one day before the 911″ just wrapped up a short bicoastal run of shows with two sold-out nights at Trans-Pecos in Queens. At night 2 (1/24), backed by a full band Jim E. played such hits as "I Urinated on a Butterfly," "I Know I'm Going to Die of a Stroke," "I'm Naked in my Room Huffing Nitrous Balloons," "I'm Writing Love Letters at McDonald's" and, at five different times throughout the set, "Rat in Bin."
New Zealand indie rock greats The Beths are wrapping up their North American tour this week, which is in support of their terrific fourth album Straight Line Was a Lie. They stopped in NYC over the weekend for a show at Brooklyn Paramount on Saturday night. Their setlist was heavy on the new album, of course, but they made time for songs from all their albums as well as a cover of yuletide classic "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas."
Golden Smog, the country-rock supergroup centered around Kraig Johnson ( Run Westy Run), Dan Murphy ( Soul Asylum), and Gary Louris and Marc Perlman of The Jayhawks, played their first NYC-area shows in nearly 20 years this past weekend as part of a short three-date December run. These dates have been extra special as they also included Jeff Tweedy in their ranks, and they played Jersey City's White Eagle Hall on Friday, and Manhattan's Bowery Ballroom on Saturday.
blink-182 began their Missionary Impossible Tour with Alkaline Trio at Hollywood, Florida's Hard Rock Live last night (8/28), and they had a lot of surprises in store. They broke out Take Off Your Pants and Jacket deep cuts "Online Songs" and "Roller Coaster" for the first time since the year that 2001 album came out, and they did their cover of Descendents' "Hope" for the first time since 2003.

The Midwest Princess is headlining two sold out shows at the Royal Highland Centre on Tuesday (26 August) and Wednesday (27 August). If her recent shows prove anything, it's that Chappell knows how to put on a show - but we already knew that!
