Paul McCartney Performs "Help!" For the First Time in 35 Years
"Sir Paul McCartney officially kicked off his first North American tour in three years with a pair of shows in California over the last few days. His Friday night gig at the Santa Barbra Bowl served as a warm-up of sorts, as he played an abbreviated setlist to a relatively intimate crowd. The tour - featuring its full 35-song setlist - continued on Monday night at Acrisure Arena in Thousand Palms, California."
"Because McCartney's Santa Barbara Bowl concert enforced a no-phone policy, the first live footage of "Help!" comes instead from his Acrisure Arena show. Watch the fan-shot video below, along with more highlights from the night and the full setlist. Paul McCartney Setlist - September 29th, Acrisure Arena - Thousand Palms, CA: Help! (The Beatles song) Coming Up Play Video (The Beatles song) Letting Go (Wings song) Drive My Car (The Beatles song)"
Paul McCartney kicked off his first North American tour in three years with two California shows. The Friday night Santa Barbra Bowl performance featured an abbreviated setlist for a smaller crowd. The full 35-song setlist was presented Monday at Acrisure Arena in Thousand Palms. McCartney opened both shows with "Help!" — the first live performance of the Beatles song in 35 years. He appeared to play the song on the Höfner bass he reunited with after 50 years. A no-phone policy in Santa Barbara meant the first live footage of "Help!" came from the Acrisure Arena show. The setlist mixed Beatles, Wings, and Quarrymen songs and closed with an encore including "I've Got a Feeling," a Sgt. Pepper's reprise, and "Helter Skelter."
