Safeway stores in San Francisco have switched to paper bags without handles, causing customer dissatisfaction and complaints about their usability.
An armed Santa Claus joined American Canyon police as they arrested two Vallejo residents last week accused of stealing 24 Christmas trees and two crates of wreaths from a local Safeway. Joshua Gonzales, 39, and Kayla Daniels, 29, were taken into custody at their home Thursday, according to a Dec. 5 Facebook post from police that included video of the unusual holiday-themed arrest.
SF-based developer Align Real Estate does, in fact, have a larger strategy to redevelop Safeway properties in the city and turn them into multi-story residential complexes with retail on the ground floor, including replacement Safeway stores. With Tuesday's announcement that Align, the same developer behind the project to redevelop the Fillmore Safeway property, was working to potentially redevelop the Ocean Beach Safeway in similar fashion, we surmised there could be a larger strategy at play.

Anyone-whether single or part of a blossoming polycule-who's begrudgingly sworn their fingers off app-swiping can be found at the Safeway. Otherwise known as Dateway for its inexplicably high number of relationship success stories, there's nowhere better in the city for a cart-bumping meet-cute than down the aisles of this big-box grocery store.
